Utilizes the capacity utilization rate formula to calculate the utilization for production

1. A manufacturing Shop is designed to operate most efficiently at an output of 550 units per day. In the past month the plant produced 490 units. What was its capacity utiization rate last month?

2. A company has a factory that is designed so that it is most efficient (average unit cost is minimized) when producing 15,000 units of output each month. However, it has an absolute maximum output capability of 17,250 units per month, and can product as little as 7,000 units per month without corporate headquarters shifting production to another plant. If the factory produces 10,925 units in October, what is the capacity utilization rate in October for this factory?

3. Hoosier Manufacturing operates a production shop that is desgined to have the lowest unit production cost at an output rate of 100 units per hour. In the month of July, the company operated the production line for a total of 175 hours and produced 16,900 units of output. What was its capacity utlization rate for the month.

4. AlwaysRain Irrigation, Inc., would like to determine capacity requirements for the next four years. Currently two production lines are in place for making bronze and plastic sprinklers. Three types of sprinklers are available in both bronze and plastic: 90-degree nozzle sprinklers, and 360-degree nozzle sprinklers. Management has forecast demand for the next four years as follows:

Yearly Demand
1 (in 000s) 2(in 000s) 3(in 000s) 4(in 000s)

Plastic 90 32 44 55 56
Plastic 180 15 16 17 18
Plastic 360 50 55 64 67
Bronze 90 7 8 9 10
Bronze 180 3 4 5 6
Bronze 360 11 12 15 18

Both production lines can produce all the different types of nozzles. The bronze machines needed for the bronze sprinklers require two operators and can produce up to 12,000 sprinklers. The plastic injection molding machine needed for the plastic sprinklers requires four operators and can produce up to 200,000 sprinklers. Three bronze machines and only one injection molding machine are available. What are the capacity requirements for the next four years? (Assume that there is no learning.)

Figure out a better time management

Major Bill Bligh, director of the Army War College's new 6-month attaché training program, is concerned about how the 20 officers taking the course spend their precious time while in his charge. Major Bligh recognizes that there are 168 hours per week and thinks that his students have been using them rather inefficiently. Bligh lets:

X1 = number of hours of sleep needed per week

X2 = number of personal hours

X3= number of hours of class and studying

X4 = number of hours of social time off base

He thinks that students should study 30 hours a week which is the most important goal.

He believes they need at most 7 hours of sleep a night on average which is the 2nd goal.

He thinks that the 3rd goal is to provide at least 20 hours per week of social time.

Required:
a) 1. Formulate this as a goal programming problem
b) 2. Solve the problem

How the global mindset affects risk assessment

Hello I need help developing a global mindset on the ford motor organization by developing an executive briefing for senior management in which the influence of the global mindset on the organization is reviewed. The executive briefing must:

* Recommend to the board of directors how a global mindset may be used to move the organization forward in the current global competitive environment.

Layout Design Understanding

1. An initial solution has been given to the following work center layout problem. Given the flows described and a cost of $2.00 per unit per foot, compute the total cost for the layout. Each location is 100 feet long and 50 feet wide as shown in the following figure. Use the centers of departments for distances and measure distance using metropolitan-rectilinear distance.

2. Some tasks and the order in which they must be performed according to their assembly requirements are shown in the following table. These are to be combined into workstations to create an assembly line. The assembly line operates 7 1/2 hours per day. The output requirements is 1,000 units per day.

How Dell has gained from 4PLs "virtual" logistics service providers

The Session Long Project (SLP) requires writing an essay on a contemporary logistics topic facing your organization. As noted in the instructions for the Module 1 SLP page, the SLP consists of two activities: (1) an assessment phase that describes how the module topic applies to your Case study organization's logistics operations, and (2) an improvement phase that asks you how the organization might better adjust logistics operations to respond to the module topic.

Whenever possible, integrate information from previous courses along with providing examples based on your own experiences to illustrate and support the points discussed in the essay.

For the module two SLP, write an essay of 1-2 pages discussing the following:

Phase 1 (Assessment Phase)

Describe and assess your organization's experience, if any, with 4PLs ("virtual" logistics service providers [VLSP]).

Phase 2 (Improvement Phase)

Determine if your organization could more effectively use the services of 4PLs (VLSP). If your organization has no experience with 4PLs (VLSP), discuss the major advantages and disadvantages that might result from using a VLSP for the organization.

Incorporate the background materials and previous course work in assessing the reference organization's experience, if any, with virtual logistics service providers. Demonstrate critical thinking, logic, and an in-depth knowledge of the virtual logistics service concept and how it could be introduced or more effectively utilized in the reference organization's supply chain management effort.

◦Assess the potential role of a virtual logistics service provider applied to your Case study organization.
◦Identify differences between traditional and virtual logistics service providers.
◦Describe the role of virtual logistics services providers.

Multiperiod capacity planning problem formulated as an LP

1. Processing passport forms consists of two activities: 1. Data verification (DV) where the data provided by individuals are verified for its correctness and 2. Data Entry (DE) where the data is entered into a computer. During the next 3 weeks the following number of forms will arrive: week 1, 50,000; week 2, 30,000; and week 3, 60,000. The passport office (PO) can hire employees every week for the rest of the project duration who work for 40 hours per week and are paid $700 per week. Data verification of a form requires 30 minutes and data entry of a form requires 15 minutes. Each week an employee is assigned either for data verification or for data entry. PO must complete processing of all forms by the end of week 5 and wants to minimize the cost of completing the task.
For both (a) and (b) define all decisions variables and constraints clearly.
(a) Formulate a Linear Programming model that will determine how many employees should be hired each week and how the employees should be assigned to different tasks over the next 5 weeks.
(b) The PO has a space constraint in their office and can accommodate a maximum of 800 employees on any given week simultaneously. If the number of employees exceeds 800 in any week, then PO has to rent additional space that would cost them $5000 per week. Make necessary changes to your formulation in (a) to include this additional constraint.
